The province of Navarre, a kingdom in medieval times, is located in the western corner of the Pyrenees mountains bordering France to the north. Half of the province's population lives in the capital of Navarre and its outlying areas.
The province is made up of three large areas, one of which is mountainous, another in the center and the last which takes in the coast. These areas have very different climates which give a completely different look to not only the landscapes, but also to the architecture and the lay-out of the towns and villages, the crops and the livestock, as well as the folklore. The official languages are Castilian Spanish and Basque.
