• Positive: Hostal St Isabela has the service you need but not the things you don't need. We were not in Madrid to hang out at the hotel. If you need a clean, cheap and central place to stay this is a good option. Toilet with shower on the room. Good cleaning. Central location. Good price. Late checkin options. Tiny-ledge balcony with big doors, letting in lots of sun. Metallic jalousie outside to darken the room for sleeping in the mornings. Beds were very stiff, which I don't mind, I found them comfortable. Our room had a nice view. A beautiful old elevator. There is a small TV which we never used.
• Negative: Rooms have poor sound proofing. There was a lot of noise from both the corridor and the street. The street outside has some activity all times of the day/night. I luckily had good earplugs for sleeping; I recommend you bring some as well. Toiletts have some machinery (pump?) in the sewage pipes that make a racket when you flush. You will hear both yours and the neighbours. The guy in the "reception" did not speak or understand ANY English. He could arrange for someone who did speak limited English to come. Only one key per room, and no way to hand in/pick up the key in the reception. Room was a bit cramped. Hard to find the entrance at arrival. (Hostal is on the 4th floor of an appartment building.)

• I recommend it especially AGAINST... Luxury, Handicapped, Travelers with a car
• Cleanliness: 10 I suffer from allergy to dust, but had no problems here.
• Location: 7.5 50m from metro station, walking distance to city center. Lots of resturants/cafés/service in the area.
• Common facilities and services: 2.5 There is a corridor. And a coffee machine. And a guy hanging out by the entrance who can to let you in. There is Wifi which works but is very slow.
• Staff: 5 Friendly and helpful, but no English.
• Quietness: Not rated There was a lot of noise from both the corridor and the street. The street outside has some activity all times of the day/night. • Room: 5 Small, white, bright, very clean. Nice view from the 4th (top) floor. "French"-balcony with lots of sun flowing in. Limited floorspace and storage.
• Value for money: 7.5 Hostals are an awesome middle ground with the price of a hostel, with the essentials of a hotel but none of the hotel extras like minibars or.
