• Positive: We just returned from a three day visit to Madrid and stayed at Hotel Europa. This is our second stay at Europa and the first since its renovation two years ago. This hotel does not disappoint. Not only is it ideally located right smack in the middle of Puerta del Sol, but it is spotless and the staff is very helpful and friendly. One piece of advice—on our first trip we had a great room with a balcony overlooking the street; but we had a hard time sleeping because of noise that continued well into the wee hours. For this trip I booked an interior room and had no problems with noise. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to visit Madrid.

• Quietness: 10 I don%27t know how quiet the outside facing rooms are, but the inside rooms were very quiet which is important since the hotel is located on a busy pedestrian street.
• Room: 10 The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were a beautiful marble.
• Value for money: 10 Absolutely.

• Negative: The website is not clear in describing the type of rooms. We reserved the double superior and specifically inquired to be sure this would accomodate 4 persons. In addition to the first inquiry we confirmed the reservation the day before our visit. When we checked in they told us this room was for two persons only. When I showed them the email proving we had in fact asked for clarification on this they could have cared less. They just kept saying "you booked the wrong room." Only when pressed did they finally agree to accomodate us in two separate rooms the first night and a larger room the remaining nights. Again, they showed no interest in trying to resolve the problem. A quick fix would be to simply clarify how any guests each room can accomodate on their website. Interestingly, the family checking in behind us had the exact same problem. I%27m not sure how they got thier situation resolved.

• Staff: 2.5 Staff was not very knowledgeable about the local area. We were in need of a hospital while there and they sent us on a wild goose chase. They had no interest in providing basic information about local sightseeing venues. Seemed like any interaction with guests was a bother.
